    What is Quadriceps Tendon Injury

The quadriceps tendon is a strong band of tissue that connects the quadriceps muscles, which are located at the front of your thigh, to the kneecap (patella). It works with the patellar tendon and the quadriceps muscles to help you bend and straighten your leg. Though they are among the strongest muscle groups in the body, the quadriceps tendon can still experience injury when the knee is under extreme stress and bends the wrong way. Some health conditions also weaken the tendon and increase the risk of injury.

The quadriceps tendon can develop partial or complete tears, and the orthopedic surgeon will treat the torn tendon based on the severity.

Our Procedure for Quadriceps Tendon Repair in Houston

Our orthopedic surgeon offers both surgical and nonsurgical treatment for quadricep tendon injuries. Here is an insight into our techniques for quadriceps tendon repair in Houston:

    1. Nonsurgical Approach: If you have a minor injury, your quadriceps tendon might respond to nonsurgical treatments. Our specialist will suggest joint immobilization and a physical rehabilitation program to alleviate your symptoms.
    2. Surgical Approach: When conservative treatment does not show effective results, our orthopedic surgeon will proceed with surgical treatment. Our orthopedic surgeon will reattach the torn tendon to your kneecap as they strive to restore your knee’s normal function. They will start by administering anesthesia, followed by making incisions, placing the suture at the tendon, and then passing it through the holes they drill in the kneecap. After that, we will tie the suture at the bottom of the kneecap, aiming to pull the torn edges of the tendon to their normal location.

    Questions About Quadriceps Tendon Repair?

    Postoperative Care

Once your quadriceps tendon repair is completed at our Houston office, we will provide you with instructions for postoperative care. You will need pain medications and ice packs to manage the discomfort. Make sure you follow our surgeon’s instructions regarding incision site care, bathing, avoiding strenuous activity, wearing the knee immobilizer, and using knee braces or crutches until the specialist deems it safe to remove.

You will also participate in physical therapy exercises to strengthen your knee muscles and optimize the function of your joint. It may take around 4 months for the quadriceps tendon to completely heal after surgical treatment!

Dr. Barrett Brown is a very fine physician. He is also a friend. While he is a surgeon he said this about my horribly painful shoulder. First we will try an injection performed by our specialist using ultra sound. (It was painless.) If that does not relieve your pain we will do a cat scan to evaluate the rotator cuff.

I have, unfortunately, been a frequent visitor to the Fondren Orthopedic clinic as I cannot seem to stay on my feet 😅. My most recent experience with Dr. Brown has been nothing short of excellent. From the initial exam to surgery and then the follow up and discussion of how I am healing have been extremely thorough and communication has been a 10. I would definitely recommend.
