    What is Patellar Tendon Repair

Your patellar tendon is responsible for knee extension, as it works with the quadriceps tendon and quadriceps muscle to straighten the knee. You may experience pain or inflammation when the tendon becomes damaged during sports, physical activity, patella dislocation, etc. When this happens, you will need patellar tendon repair.

Patellar tendon repair is a surgical procedure that involves reattaching the torn tendon to the kneecap and restoring normal function in the affected leg. Our patellar tendon repair in Houston is designed to reconnect the tendon securely and allow for proper knee extension after the treatment.

A Glimpse of Our Patellar Tendon Repair in Houston

Sometimes, nonsurgical treatments might be beneficial for the partial tear in the patellar tendon. Our orthopedic surgeon might recommend braces or splints to immobilize the knee. In addition, physical therapy might work on restoring strength and increasing the range of motion in the knee joint.

If you require surgical patellar tendon repair, our team will educate you on the procedure so that you can make an informed decision. The goal of surgical treatment is to reattach the torn tendon to the kneecap. Our orthopedist starts by administering anesthesia. After that, we will make small incisions on the front of your knee to expose the tendon rupture, drill holes in the patella, and tie strong sutures to thread them through the holes. The sutures will pull the torn edge of the patellar tendon and restore its normal position. Then, we will close the incisions and instruct on post-surgery care.

We follow efficient techniques when you visit us for patellar tendon repair in Houston. You can count on our team to treat your patellar tendon tears with precision!

    Questions About Patellar Tendon Repair?

    Recovery Period

The severity of your injury and the surgical technique we follow will determine the recovery. Generally, patients can expect full recovery within 4 to 6 months. You should stick to the post-operative care instructions our orthopedic surgeon will provide after your patellar tendon repair.

We will place a brace or another immobilization device to keep your knee in place for at least 8 weeks. You will also require a combination of ice, rest, and medications to deal with the pain and inflammation after your surgical treatment. Our specialist will design a physical rehabilitation program that will further improve the condition of your knee and help with recovery.

Dr. Barrett Brown is a very fine physician. He is also a friend. While he is a surgeon he said this about my horribly painful shoulder. First we will try an injection performed by our specialist using ultra sound. (It was painless.) If that does not relieve your pain we will do a cat scan to evaluate the rotator cuff.

I have, unfortunately, been a frequent visitor to the Fondren Orthopedic clinic as I cannot seem to stay on my feet 😅. My most recent experience with Dr. Brown has been nothing short of excellent. From the initial exam to surgery and then the follow up and discussion of how I am healing have been extremely thorough and communication has been a 10. I would definitely recommend.
