    Partial Meniscectomy

    What is Partial Meniscectomy

When your meniscus tissue is damaged, we might recommend a partial meniscectomy. Our surgeon usually suggests this procedure if your imaging tests imply that the damaged meniscus has poor blood supply or if the tear pattern cannot be repaired. You might experience pain and inflammation in the knee joint due to meniscus tear, which can irritate the knee joint by creating a small tissue flap.

If you live in Houston, you can visit us for a partial meniscectomy. The procedure involves arthroscopy, as we will insert a tiny camera through a small incision in your knee and remove the tissue flap. The aim of this procedure is to preserve as much of the meniscus as possible.

Process of Our Partial Meniscectomy in Houston

Once our surgeon confirms that you require partial meniscectomy, they will schedule the procedure on a day that is feasible for you. We perform the procedure with an arthroscopy, making small incisions around the knee. Then, we insert a miniature camera through one of the incisions to monitor the inside of the knee. After this, we insert tiny surgical instruments through one of the small incisions to remove the torn meniscus and smoothen the remaining edges. If any unstable fragments cause a locking and catching sensation, we will also remove them.

Thanks to our partial meniscectomy in Houston, you can restore and maintain knee stability and recover faster. We will suggest rehabilitation, which includes exercises that help improve the range of motion mobility of your knee. That is not all! The procedure and rehabilitation work to restore the strength of your knee, too.

    Questions About Partial Meniscectomy?

    Recovery

You can expect to heal within four to six following the arthroscopic partial meniscectomy. Our surgeon will recommend using crutches for a few days after the surgical procedure, but you might be able to plant your foot with the injured knee on the ground and lightly bear the weight. On average, the patient regains full movement of the knee within 2 to 5 days of surgery. You will need to follow a physical therapy plan to attain proper range of motion, stability, and strength after the surgery.

Dr. Barrett Brown is a very fine physician. He is also a friend. While he is a surgeon he said this about my horribly painful shoulder. First we will try an injection performed by our specialist using ultra sound. (It was painless.) If that does not relieve your pain we will do a cat scan to evaluate the rotator cuff.

I have, unfortunately, been a frequent visitor to the Fondren Orthopedic clinic as I cannot seem to stay on my feet 😅. My most recent experience with Dr. Brown has been nothing short of excellent. From the initial exam to surgery and then the follow up and discussion of how I am healing have been extremely thorough and communication has been a 10. I would definitely recommend.
